So, I take it that you don’t like SCI-FI? All the shows you have abused were great-FOR THEIR TIME. I know, I was there for the debut of Star Trek, have watched all you’ve mentioned and await the next great show.

That said, you are right about Shatner.

Hey Hey! What a story!! It totally makes up for not getting a shot glass from Shannon. It did take me three separate occaisions to read your blog as I kept getting interrupted. I not sure about this so don’t quote me on it, but I think you could have made it to Australia in quicker time than to Perugia! Anywho…I’m glad you made it okay and you’re safe and sound with M-Dawg.

Bummer about the luggage, señor. Kudos, however, for improving your flight itinerary—in the face of utter stupidity on the part of the airlines, you managed to work the system to improve your situation. I think both you and the airline employee who adjusted your itinerary have earned some good karma.

I hope you enjoy the trip and that you continue to update the blogosphere with your hijinks. Say, “hi,” to Misa for me, and I shall see you both upon your return. (Also, if you managed to upload some photos to picasaweb or flickr, I would not be upset.) ^^

David, I guess I’ll have to look into Quod Libet, thanks. The reason I wrote that comment was to have this kind of rich metadata in all Gnome music players as I think this would ‘improve music playback in Gnome’.

Jens, you say that you want to mark your tracks to belong to more than one genre. There is absolutely nothing that prevents you from doing that, other than using limited software. I assign multiple genre to my oggs and mp3 without and problem at all.

I also assign multiple performers and sometimes artists. As I said in an earlier comment, a system that limits this in a fundamental way is seriously broken.

It would be interesting to have a closer look to Amarok, it seems to provide the stuff you’re looking for. It has Metadata indexing, smart playlists (for example by using last.fm’s AudioScrobbler database) and integrates well into the desktop.
The only thing from your ‘wishlist’ that Amarok does not yet have is: Using the desktop search infrastructure for metadata indexing, but I suppose that’s going to come in Amarok 2 which will base on the KDE4 infrastructure and thus will have pervasive indexing available.
Another thing someone mentioned in the comments is muting or dimming the music player when a VoIP call (or something similar) needs the attention of the user, that is actually being implemented by Phonon, the KDE4 audio backend.
